The GPS system measures the time interval between the transmission and reception of a satellite signal and then the GPS software uses the distance measurements to calculate the fix of the user and each satellite.
Once a GPS system has determined a user's position, the GPS software can then calculate other information, such as speed, bearing, track, trip distance, distance to destination, sunrise and sunset time plus much more.
The GPS software can then use this information for charting and mapping, plotting a course, navigating from point to point, tracking vehicle movement, locating previously identified sites or a variety of other available functions.
