The Garmin Rino is a GPS enabled, handheld with an exclusive position reporting feature that allows you to send and receive GPS positions from other Rino users. The Garmin Rino integrates radio functionality to allow two-way communications up to five miles using GMRS channels.
The waterproof, handheld Garmin Rino includes many features. As a WAAS enabled GPS receiver the Garmin Rino includes:
- 22 communication channels: 1-14 FRS, 15-22 GMRS
- 38 sub-audible squelch codes per transmission channel for semi-private radio communications
- Garmin Rino has a transmit distance of up to 2 miles using FRS and up to 5 miles with GMRS
- External voice activation (VOX)
- Ergonomic design for one-handed operation
- Unique 5-way cursor for channel selection and volume adjustment in FRS/GMRS mode or quick map panning, entering, and selecting functions in GPS mode
- Seven voice-only GMRS channels dedicated to vocal communication only
- Beam exact location to another Rino user within a 2-mile range on the FRS spectrum
- Position reporting feature; send and receive GPS positions from other Rino users
- Standard FRS capability; communicate with others with conventional FRS radios
- Built-in worldwide city point database
- Download from a MapSource Points of Interest CD-ROM
- 1 MB of internal memory (Garmin Rino 120 unit has 8mb)
For one handed ease of use the Garmin Rino GPS enabled, handheld has Call, Press-To-Talk (PTT) and Page mode buttons on the side, Power/Backlighting button on top and Volume and Zoom buttons in front.
